He’s 92 and doing the best work of his life!!

Yes, you read that right. Oh to be 92 and doing the best work of your life! How does one do that?

I get the distinct pleasure of talking to David at least every week on the phone and seeing him every month, if not every couple weeks, even though I moved a 5-hour drive away.

Our conversations go deep, immediately. And I am better for it. We are two thinkers and we are two writers.

He considers thinking writing.

His writing is the culmination of his thinking, and his writing now is the culmination of nearly 10 decades of thinking! At 92, he has wrestled and persisted through technological challenges and started his own Substack! Did I tell you he's 92!

He writes daily. He lives true to himself. He is kind, gentle, and perceptive.

What a joy it is to be in "middle age" and know someone I love and respect dearly that is TWICE my age. It puts my foibles and uncertainties in perspective.

We often talk about the fragility and difficulty of life. We talk about the miracle of life. Sally and David are anomalies - present, growing, learning, and contributing.

I hope you find your own Sally and David, but in the meantime, you can borrow mine and know what incredible purpose your life can still hold in your tenth decade.

Perhaps this will help you in your current decade. How are all your experiences, hardships, transitions seasoning and growing you? They are growing you to do you best work, which comes as the most integrated version of you.

Time give us that option, but we have to participate. We have to be like David (and Sally). I'll write more about Sally another time.
